Everyone that knows me knows that I love my weiners. My weiner dogs, that is! When their birthdays roll around each year, which happen to be exactly one year and a day apart from each other in January, I get soooo freaking excited (so excited that I make them their own birthday cakes and desserts, as you can see)… and dare I say, even a little choked up!
Banana, my younger pup of 11 years, has so much to celebrate each birthday. She has had her share of scary health problems and then some, including several intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) episodes and an autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) that she almost died of. I’m so glad that she has survived all of these things because I think I need her more than she needs me! Maybe she knows that.
As cheesy as it may be, I cherish all the memories I have of them in my life, doing their silly quirks that I have come to adore. I love them so immensely — as much as I would a human child, I imagine, and probably more than I love my hubby (shhh!) — which means it’s going to tear me apart when I have to say my inevitable final goodbye to each of them one day.
But enough of that sad, sappy stuff.
Happy Birthday to my old, grey-furred baby dachs! I couldn’t be a prouder, crazier dog mom! Who needs kids when you have these guys!
